When we started our 4-month engagement with Chicago Auto Recon in July 2025, the site already had the right page architecture -- 10 service pages and 25 neighborhood pages. What it didn't have was the depth, schema markup, or content quality that would make Google treat those pages as authoritative answers to high-intent queries.
This article breaks down the four-phase approach that took a constrained Squarespace site from under 200 organic visits per month to 3,960 clicks and 1.72M impressions in six months.
Phase 1: Squarespace Optimization and GBP Reset (July 2025)
Squarespace doesn't give you the same technical SEO flexibility as a custom build, but it does let you inject code blocks. That was the lever.
We injected JSON-LD structured data via code blocks -- LocalBusiness, AutoRepair, and Service schema -- giving Google machine-readable signals about what the business does, where it operates, and what services it offers. We rebuilt page-level metadata and Open Graph tags across every page, and compressed and lazy-loaded the heavy gallery imagery. Chicago Auto Recon is image-rich by nature of the work, and those unoptimized images were dragging load times.
The Google Business Profile rebuild was equally important. We built out the full service catalog (10 services), defined service areas covering all 25 Chicago neighborhoods, started weekly photo uploads from active jobs, and created structured Q&A entries targeting commercial intent: "do you work with insurance," "do you handle Tesla collision," "do you do paint correction."
Key deliverables: Schema injection, GBP rebuild, image optimization, citation cleanup.
Phase 2: Service Page Depth Rebuild (August 2025)
The 10 existing service pages were 200-word stubs. Google had no reason to rank them above a franchise competitor's 2,000-word resource page.
We rebuilt each service page as a 2,000 to 3,000 word authoritative resource. The content was specific to the work the shop actually does -- Tesla aluminum panel repair differs meaningfully from steel; BMW factory paint codes have specific matching requirements; Mercedes electronic calibration after collision requires specific diagnostic equipment.
Each page included original photography from the shop floor, insurance-process walkthroughs, real cost ranges, and FAQ schema targeting snippet capture. The Tesla, BMW, and Mercedes pages were prioritized because those were the niche queries where Chicago Auto Recon had a genuine competitive advantage.
Why depth matters for auto body SEO: When a searcher types "tesla body shop chicago," they are not looking for a generic landing page that says "we fix cars." They are looking for evidence that the shop understands the specific materials, tools, and certification requirements for their vehicle. Content depth is the proof.
Phase 3: Neighborhood Pages With Real Local Content (September 2025)
The 25 neighborhood pages were the biggest dormant asset on the site. The original versions were thin -- essentially "auto body shop in [neighborhood]" with a paragraph of boilerplate.
We rewrote each one with real Pilsen-to-neighborhood context: drive time from the shop, common collision causes in that neighborhood (Lake Shore Drive accident profiles differ from Kennedy Expressway), towing service availability, named landmarks for pickup and drop-off coordination.
Each neighborhood page cross-linked to the relevant service pages, creating a service-by-location internal linking matrix that gave Google clear signals about geographic relevance.
This is the phase that set up the compounding inflection. The Semrush keyword count started climbing through November after the September rewrites were indexed, broke sharply upward in late January 2026 as the full content layer reached ranking maturity in Google, and peaked there -- three months after the 4-month engagement had already concluded.
The neighborhoods covered: Pilsen, Logan Square, West Loop, Bucktown, Lincoln Park, Wicker Park, Streeterville, and 18 more across Chicago's North Side, South Loop, and western suburbs.
Phase 4: Blog Content Launch and Handoff (October 2025)
With the service and neighborhood pages pulling in commercial-intent traffic, we launched 15+ blog posts targeting research-stage queries: "how long does collision repair take," "is it worth fixing a dent or paying the deductible," "tesla aluminum body repair cost," "best vehicle wraps for Chicago weather."
These posts served two purposes. First, they pulled in broad informational impressions that expanded the brand's search footprint. Second, they created internal linking opportunities back to the commercial pages, reinforcing topical authority.
At the end of October 2025 we delivered a final optimization report, indexation checklist, and content-refresh calendar -- then handed off. No retainer. No ongoing monthly work. Everything that followed -- the November climb, the late-January peak at 17.1K monthly visits, the stable 5,000-7,000 range through April 2026 -- happened without any active Semark involvement. Google's algorithm rewarded the depth we built during the 4-month sprint, and the returns kept arriving.

What This Means
You don't need to leave Squarespace to rank. You don't need a $50,000 custom build. What you need is content depth that matches search intent and technical signals that help Google parse what your business does and where it operates.
For auto body shops specifically, the winning strategy is niche-first: own the queries for specific vehicle brands and repair types before trying to compete on the broad "auto body shop [city]" terms. Topical authority on the niche lifts the broader terms naturally.
